How to use it

  1. Choose the business type Pick the most specific type that fits what you do. Use the general type only when nothing narrower applies.
  2. Enter name, address, and phone Copy them exactly as they appear on your page and your Google Business Profile.
  3. Set the opening hours Mark closed days and set open and close times. Days with the same hours merge into one entry.
  4. Copy the output Paste it into the matching location page and test it in a schema validator.

Why it matters

LocalBusiness markup states your name, address, phone number, and hours in a form that search engines and AI tools can read directly. It does not replace a Google Business Profile and it does not give a ranking boost. It removes guesswork when a system tries to match your site to a listing.

The business type matters more than most people expect. A Plumber or Dentist type is more specific than LocalBusiness and tells a reader what you do without parsing paragraphs. Choose the most specific schema.org type that fits, and fall back to LocalBusiness only when nothing narrower applies.

Consistency does the real work. The name, address, and phone in the markup should match the page, your Google Business Profile, and your citations exactly, down to Suite versus Ste. Hours go stale first, so update them when holiday or seasonal hours change. Give each location its own page with its own markup, address, and phone, so the details for one branch never blur into another.

Questions

Do I need geo coordinates?

No, they are optional. They help when an address is hard to place, such as a rural property or a new development. Use decimal degrees, for example 41.5382 and -72.8070.

Which business type should I pick?

The most specific one that describes your main service. If you do plumbing and drain work, choose Plumber. If nothing fits, LocalBusiness is valid, and schema.org lists many more specific types you can swap in by hand.

How do I add this to my site?

Paste the script tag into the location page using a custom HTML block or the page's custom code field. Then run the page through a schema validator.

What if I have no storefront?

A service area business can still use LocalBusiness with the address it works from. If you hide your address on Google, think before publishing it in markup, because markup is visible in the page source.
