One per line. Each line becomes one slug.

Words like the and of

Cuts at a whole word. Enter 0 for no limit.

Slugs are lowercase, drop accents and apostrophes, and join words with hyphens. Short, readable addresses are easier to share and to read in results. Changing a slug on a live page needs a redirect from the old address.

This tool runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere or stored.

How to use it

  1. Enter your titles Add one title per line. Blank lines stay blank so the output lines up with your list.
  2. Choose how to treat common words Keep every word for clarity, or drop words like the and of for a shorter address.
  3. Set a length limit The default of 60 characters cuts at a whole word. Enter 0 for no limit.
  4. Copy the slugs Copy the list or download it as a text file, then paste each slug into your CMS.

Why it matters

A slug is the last part of a page address. Google recommends simple URLs made of words people can read, with hyphens between words, since it treats hyphens as separators and does not do so for underscores. A readable address also helps people trust a link before they click it.

Keep slugs short and stable. Words that describe the page are enough, and dates, numbers, and stop words usually add length without value. Changing a slug on a live page changes its address, so add a permanent redirect from the old one or you lose the links and traffic that point to it.

Be consistent. Pick lowercase and hyphens once and use them everywhere, because URLs are case sensitive and a mixed style creates duplicates. Avoid stuffing the same keyword into the slug, which reads as spam and gains nothing. Treat the slug as a label for the page, not a place to fit extra phrases.

Questions

Should I remove words like the and of?

Only if the slug stays clear. Shorter is easier to read, but dropping words can make a title ambiguous.

Does the slug affect rankings?

Only slightly. Its main value is readability for people and clarity about the topic.

What happens to accented letters?

They are reduced to plain letters, so a word like cafe replaces the accented spelling.

Can I change a slug after publishing?

Yes, but add a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one so links keep working.
