Keyword intent classifier.
Paste a list of keywords to label each one Informational, Commercial, Transactional, or Navigational using the rules listed on this page. Add your brand terms so branded searches count as navigational. It is a heuristic for sorting long lists quickly, and you can export the labeled list as a CSV file.
Separate terms with commas. Keywords that contain one are labeled Navigational.
1 keyword per line. The sample keywords are example data.

How labels are decided
This is a heuristic. Each keyword is checked against these rules in order, and the first rule that matches sets the label. Matching ignores case and works on English words.
- Navigational Contains one of your brand terms
- Navigational Looks like a web address, such as www.example.com or example.com
- Navigational Contains a login or official site phrase: login, log in, sign in, signin, official site, official website
- Commercial Contains a comparison or review word: best, top, vs, versus, compare, comparison, review, reviews, alternative, alternatives, worth it
- Informational Starts with a question word: how, what, why, when, where, who, which, can, does, do, is, are, should
- Commercial Contains a price word: price, prices, pricing, cost, costs
- Transactional Contains a buying or booking word: buy, purchase, order, shop, coupon, discount, deal, deals, for sale, cheap, cheapest, near me, hire, book, booking, appointment, quote, subscribe, download, free trial, sign up, signup, rent
- Informational Contains a learning word: guide, tutorial, tips, example, examples, definition, meaning, ideas, ways to, steps, checklist, template, learn, explained
- Informational Anything else is labeled Informational and marked "No rule matched"

- Export the list Copy or download the CSV and sort it in your spreadsheet.
Why it matters
Search intent is the reason behind a query, and it decides what kind of page can rank. Someone searching how to unclog a drain wants a guide. Someone searching emergency plumber near me wants a phone number. Putting a guide where a service page belongs, or the reverse, is one of the most common reasons a page does not perform.
Sorting a few thousand keywords by hand is slow, so rules help. The rules here look for words that signal each intent, such as best and vs for commercial, buy and near me for transactional, and question words at the start for informational. A keyword that contains your brand name is labeled navigational, since the searcher is usually looking for you. The matched rule appears next to each label.
A heuristic gets the clear cases right and misses the subtle ones. A bare phrase like running shoes has no signal, so it defaults to Informational with a note, and it deserves a look at the live results. Use the output to sort a list into groups, then check the top results for the keywords that matter most. If the first page shows product listings, the intent is commercial or transactional whatever the words say. The rules read English only.
Questions
How accurate is it?
It follows fixed word rules, so it is consistent but not clever. Expect to correct some labels. The reason column shows where to look first.
Why is a keyword marked Informational when no rule matched?
Keywords with no signal words fall back to Informational and say so in the reason column. Check the search results for those to confirm the intent.
What counts as a brand term?
Your business name, product names, and common misspellings, separated by commas. Any keyword that contains one is labeled Navigational.
What does the export contain?
A CSV file with three columns: keyword, intent, and reason.
