Free tool

UTM link builder.

Add your page address and campaign details to build a link with UTM parameters. Source, medium, and campaign are required, and term and content are optional. The tool keeps existing query parameters and any fragment, replaces old utm values, and can lowercase everything so your reports do not split one campaign into two.

Presets

Where the link lives.

The channel type.

Optional. A paid keyword.

Optional. Tells links in one campaign apart.

Existing query parameters and any #fragment are kept. Old utm values on the address are replaced.

This tool runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere or stored.

How to use it

  1. Enter the page address Use the full address, including https://. The tool checks that it is a valid web address.
  2. Fill in source, medium, and campaign Source is where the link lives, medium is the channel type, and campaign is the effort it belongs to. Presets fill the first two.
  3. Add term or content when you need them Use term for a paid keyword and content to tell two links in one campaign apart.
  4. Copy the link Use it in your email, ad, or post. Nothing is saved, so keep your naming rules in a shared document.

Why it matters

UTM parameters are tags on a link that tell your analytics tool where a visit came from. Without them, clicks from email, social posts, and some apps land in Direct or under a referrer you cannot tell apart. With them, a visit from a newsletter link is reported as that newsletter.

The failure that ruins reports is inconsistency. Analytics tools treat Email, email, and e-mail as 3 different values, so 1 campaign shows up as 3 rows. Decide a naming convention before you build the first link: lowercase, one separator between words, and the same source name every time. The lowercase option here enforces the first rule for you.

Use UTM tags on links you control that point to your site, such as email, ad destinations, social profiles, QR codes, and partner placements. Do not add them to links between pages of your own site, because a click with new values can start a new session and replace the real source of the visit. Keep campaign names short and specific, such as spring-sale or webinar-oct.

Questions

Which parameters are required?

This tool requires source, medium, and campaign so every link can be reported. Term is for paid keywords and content separates links or creatives inside one campaign.

Do UTM links hurt SEO?

Each tagged address is a different URL for the same page. A self-referencing canonical tag that points to the clean address handles this, and most CMSs add one by default.

Are UTM values case sensitive?

Yes. Analytics tools treat Email and email as different values. Leave the lowercase option on unless you have a reason not to.

Should I tag links between my own pages?

No. A tagged internal link can overwrite the original source of the visit in your reports. Tag only links that bring people to your site.
