How keyword slots and pools work
Doily is opening soon. These articles describe how the product works at launch.
Quick answer
A pool is a group of keywords tracked for one country or area, one device, and one engine. Each keyword in a pool uses 1 keyword slot, so a keyword in 2 pools uses 2 slots. Slot limits are 10 on Free, 150 on Starter, 750 on Team, and 1,500 plus 500 per level on Agency.
Before you start
- A project with a domain added
- A list of keywords and the places where your customers search
Steps
-
Create a pool for your main market
Choose the country or area, the device, and the engine. Pools split by country, area, device, and engine, so each combination is its own pool.
-
Add keywords to the pool
Each keyword you add uses 1 slot in that pool. Doily shows how many keywords you are tracking against your plan's cap.
-
Add a second pool only when you need it
Tracking the same keyword for mobile and desktop, or for 2 cities, means 2 pools. The keyword then uses 2 slots, one in each pool.
-
Watch the cap
Free tracks 10 keywords weekly. Starter, Team, and Agency track daily. When you reach the cap, new keywords wait until you free slots or add more.
-
Add slots if you outgrow the plan
The keyword add-on gives 250 more daily slots for $25 a month. Caps are hard, so you are never billed for going over.
Tips
- Start with one pool on the device most of your customers use, then add the second device when the first is stable.
- Pools split by device, so a mobile pool and a desktop pool for the same keyword use 2 slots.
- Rankings are checked daily on Google on paid plans.
Troubleshooting
Why did my slot count go up by more than the keywords I added?
Each pool counts on its own. Adding one keyword to 3 pools uses 3 slots.
What happens when I downgrade and have too many keywords?
Downgrades never delete data. Tracking pauses on pools past the new cap, and the oldest pools keep running. A banner lists what is paused and what resumes it.
Can an agency track more keywords?
Agency plans start at 1,500 slots and add 500 for each level, from L1 to L6. The keyword add-on is also available on paid plans.
